Seriously? Seriously...

All I can do is laugh. My child obviously takes after his father.

Danny and I have often joked that we are six years apart in age because when we made the decision to come down to earth, I was in a rush to get here and took the first opportunity. While he said, "I'm on my way" ... it's obvious to me he then proceeded to catch a few years worth of Heavenly Sports Center and made his way down 5 years and six months later.

A man's timing is not my timing.

So here are a few things I've heard in the last week:
  • "You're still pregnant?!?!" Most common reaction from EVERYONE!
  • "You still have a baby in your tummy?" How Christie (one of our renters) phrases it ... when she says it, it makes me laugh.
  • "I can't find your cervix" followed 4 days later by "You have an elusive cervix." Yes, that was my midwife Kat.
What can you do besides laugh when you're 40-weeks 2 days and NOT EVEN DILATED to a ONE?!?!? What is wrong with me? More importantly, what is up with having an elusive cervix? Is that a medical condition? ;)

Well, it could be a lot of things... or nothing.

I had one of those "Non-stress Tests" earlier today... so they check the amniotic fluid, and his size and heartbeat and responsiveness. The lady administering to me said everything looks fine, good... "He's really comfortable in there." She said, "Which is great news, or bad news I guess for you."

I just smiled and kind of half-laughed. (It was either that or cry.)

Kat scheduled me for a medical induction beginning Saturday night with Pitocin (ARGH!) on Sunday morning. It's a good thing the Bears / Colts aren't playing in the Superbowl, or I'd really be having a hard time (kidding).

Obviously, my preference is that he comes ASAP. (and not because "I'm miserable" or "Sooo over being pregnant"... I'm not. I'm fine. I may look like an oompah-loompah, but I feel more like it's my 2nd trimester again...I just have a bigger belly).

I really don't want to be induced. I don't want Pitocin... and I sure as Hades do not want an epidural (you know I have a fear of needles, right?).

But again, I am being shown that I am not in charge. I am not in control. And no matter how many times I remind myself that this is not about me, or my timing...it's hard to REALLY believe.

So I scheduled an appointment with an accupressurist for tomorrow. She said she's done work on girls who an hour later go into labor. Why not? I've got until Saturday night to try ANYTHING!

And yes Cicely, I know S-E-X worked for you and Alison...

Anyone else care to chime in on my crazy comfortable womb?

I thoroughly enjoyed my epidural. Just a little prick which you never even see the needle. I think I enjoyed it BECAUSE I had one. LOL!! No worries! Good luck. I hope it goes your way and that Holden comes before Saturday.

Well, I was absolutely desperate to get Thing 1 out of me, and I tried everything short of castor oil. (That's just sick and wrong). But I did try the garlic chicken something pizza at Trio that I'd heard put numerous ladies into labor. I read about it on the bathroom door at Dr. Wilde's office. So, I thought, what the heck? It's worth a shot. And what do ya know? Not 24 hours later I was holding a baby in my arms.

Just an idea. . .

Nothing worked for Owen. I was TEN days over my due date and I was still a Zero. Even after 24 hours of sitting in a hospital bed trying to soften my cervix with some pills, still nothing. My midwife described my cervix as "unfavorable!" and finally I gave in and got a drip. People say it all the time, but it's true, if you are already gonna go into labor, the pineapple, and pizza, and diarrhea inducing crap all work, but if you are going nowhere, I think it can be frustrating. I think you have a good attitude about it. In the end all that maters is he is healthy, right?

Ladies,
All blessed words of encouragement!

Amy -
I love that you mentioned this... you're the third person in 2 days and so I think we are going for pizza tonight...even though I do think Dr is a little crazy. ;) I did tell you he was in fact the one that said "I don;t care if you want to deliver in the shower as long as you don't mind washing my back!"

And Al, I am beginning to think that having an unfavorable cervix is a bit like not being able to "find" one... (I mean, she found it... eventually.) ;)

Thanks Ladies...

And yes, the most important thing is that Holden's ok.

I went overdue with both of mine. With Thomas, I got induced two days after my due date, wasn't a great experience. With Caroline I went 6 days over, and every day was the longest of my life! I tried everything, including that gross pizza at Trio, but for me walking very briskly for 1 hour straight in the rain did it. Give it a try, walk him out! I will have to do the same in two weeks. I went without an epidural both times and I am sure you can do it!!! You are such a strong woman.

After delivering naturally w/two failed epidurals with my first. And then having an epidural that worked amazing with my second. You have nothing to worry about. When my second came out I immediately said... that was it? Let's have another.

Hey Sabrina, it's Alicia West, Mike's wife. I found your blog and it is sooo fun to read. You are the best writer. I think I was 7 days overdue with Brady. They scheduled me to go in to be induced and I went into labor on my own the night before anyway. I can tell how you feel about epidurals but for me, it was the BEST part of my pregnancy. Plus, I only had to push through 3 contractions. Good luck! And I hope you don't try the pizza...I did, and it was just really yucky.

hey,....at least your still laughing!
i too tried it all. are you squatting and stretching? can they just "rupture your membrane" first and see what happens? i was induced with #4 and still didn;t need an epidural. you can do it!...think lots of positive thoughts!

Well I hope he comes before you are induced!! I am glad you liked your G diapers I was a little nervous about that gift. Good Luck

Oh and by the way everyone makes the epidural sound WAY worse than it really is so if you end up getting one you will be feeling crazy contractions and the needle doesn't even hurt!!

I wanted to leave you some encouragement. My first baby was 3months premature and weighed 1 pound 12 ounces. My second, which I just had in October, I was able to make it to 38 weeks. Let me just say that you are in such good shape and I know you are miserable and ready, but it is such a blessing you've been able to carry your baby so long. Yay for you!

I wasn't able to have anything the first birth and with the second I ended up with an induction and got an epidural. Do the epidural. It makes the delivery so much easier. And, if they have to break your water it isn't bad and if you end up with an episiodomy it isn't bad either. I was so afraid of all of those things and was glad to find out that the anticipation of that stuff is worse than actually going through it. I hope that helps if you are feeling apprehensive about any of it.

Congratulations to you! Get as much rest as you can in the hospital because it will be weeks before you can get any rest.

Oh, and I have two boys and they are such fun. Good luck to you!

Maybe you should have a real doctor look for your cervix. I'm sure he would find it no problem.

Cicely said...

Classic Darth.

Have you tried having S?

For realsies though, I'm with Allison. I tried everything to get Miles out, but nothing happened.

I think sex and maybe some other things helped with Faye because she was ready to fall out- I was, after all, walking around at a 4 for a month.

I love you. and Holden.
ps. Is that the famous Kat that posted on your blog?

Sabrena, you are amazing. I loved talking to you today. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Your story will write itself and be perfect, no matter how it turns out.

Can't wait to hear what happens. You will love the story in about a year or so when you can tell it to your cute Holden and laugh about it! You will do great!
