America -- doin' a "solid" for itself. . .

I don't think words can really express how I feel about this election.

I didn't vote for Obama because he is black. (I didn't vote for Hillary in the primary because she was a woman.)
And I didn't vote for Obama just because he's a great orator, a celebrity or "cool."

Sure, I voted for "change."

But not just change the cryptic, dubious, enigmatic, ambiguous .... not this vast undefinable or  unknown.

I voted for a foreign policy based on diplomacy, instead of force.
I voted for better schools.
I voted for health care:  a basic necessity -- not a privilege.
I voted for the economy -- where the middle class is not shouldering the tax burden, and the American dream is attainable for all (not just those of us who have parents and in-laws who can "help out.")
I voted for helping my brothers and sisters -- regardless of their station in life.
I voted for responsibility.
I voted for family.
I voted for fiscal responsibility -- not uncontrolled spending.

And I voted for the first Black president of the United States of America. . . not because he's black.  That doesn't matter to me when casting my ballot... but the significance of America making that choice, well, like I said (and as I think Pat Bagley perfectly put it) ... well played U.S. I'd say America's done itself a "solid."

PS. I can only assume that Horiuchi benefited from the "suite-mangum BUMP" after my endorsement... as one poll showed him behind before my post... ;)

I'd also like to congratulate the UTES on being 10-0... they must be living right off the field, eh?

Let's talk a little more about the principles of 'solidness', shall we? At the core of 'who a person really is', is their core beliefs, and the influences that helped form those beliefs. We can tell a lot about a person by the influences he or she exposes their children to.

Whom you have voted for was a man who, for more than 20 years, obtained his spiritualism from a man of hate...Worse, you have supported a man and his wife who subjected their two innocent children to that level of hatred. What kind of parent, let alone chief executive, does that? How can we follow a man of that character who follows a man of that character? He'd still be attending that church today if it wasn't against his political interests. He can't stand behind his principles because he doesn't have core principles to defend.

Three words: "God !@#!@$@#%$@# America?" You support that? He was Wright about one thing- The chickens WILL come home to roost if we elect people with that kind of spiritualism and love of our country.

That's not the type of spiritualism and patriotism that I would like to see in my leader.....or from any parent. If you fail to see this as a problem, then let me ask you- do you and Danny plan to subject Holden to this type of "love" on a regular basis? That is not the type of clear thinking that I expect of anyone, let alone a political candidate. This is a person who swears to defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Whom you have supported is a man who wants to "talk" to people who hate our country to the point that they will kill more than 3,000 at any given opportunity- people who do so at the expense of the LIVES people in your chosen industry of profession, and your former occupation. Good luck "negotiating" with that.

Whom you have voted for and supported is a man who failed to defend those in the military whom he is about to serve as Commander In Chief. How would you feel if SouthWest's CEO failed to defend you....when you did nothing wrong? How would you feel if your CEO failed to apologize to you after he was wrong?

Whom you have supported is a man who is married to a woman who has only recently been proud to be a citizen of this country; the polar opposite of the true role model of pride that all of us should have. Rather than First Lady, she should be the first to leave if she felt that way.

We elected a man, who as Senator Clinton correctly stated, has 1 speech from 2004 as his qualification.

You've voted for who really amounts to a song and dance man. The band's about to play, and he better step up. He will be treated to the same audience as all others who have gone before him. No more. No less.

Time to deliver starts in January.

The change? Well, let's hope that there is some- positive change.

I would say the same about any candidate with these same failures.

Then, you have his former running mate, now second-in-'command'. Joe The Plagarizer.

Keep your hands out of my wallet. I don't tell you what to do with your money. Before I can assist people, I need a job. I won't have one for very long if high taxes cause my employers to outsource it. Re-distribute your own wealth. I'll distribute mine as I see fit, and I tend to be generous....if I have any wealth left, that is.

God bless the United State of America and the best wishes for those who influence our future generations.

Solid? I sure hope so. With what little I know of our president-elect, I wish I had less of these concerns. I don't describe him or this situation as being all that 'solid'.

Talk about hate. Re-read your comment and then decide who is being hateful.

How can you say this man doesn't have "core principles to defend?" Our president elect has dedicated his entire life to helping people. He is a kind, strong, God fearing man who loves America and wants nothing more than to make this country the best it can be.

I'm sorry to hear that you think Barack will be stealing your money. Your words: "Keep your hands out of my wallet." When people, such as yourself, say things like that- I can't help but feel sad. Why the greed? Do you believe it is wrong to help a pregnant mother who can't afford her prenatal visits? Is it wrong to allow a child to get medical attention even though their parents can't afford it? I just don't understand.

Talk about a better America. Maybe if we all cared enough to give a little- we would have a change for the better in this country.

=====

I'll leave it to you to describe me however you want. If you think I'm crazy, so be it. If I'm crazy, at least I'm crazy enough not to call people names on the basis of my disagreements with them.

Talk about hate. Re-read your comment and then decide who is being hateful.

I don't consider myself hateful, but if you think that I am, I'll live with it. I wrote that I am all for giving the president-elect that I've given his predecessors....and, I am not so hateful, Cicely, that I associate myself with people who denigrate my country. I love and respect my country. I'm proud of my country. I would never "darn" my country, a country where men and women have died so that I could have the ability to say such things had I wanted to. Do you deny that our president-elect has associated himself with hateful people? In at least one case, he's associated himself with killers. I haven't. I won't. I love people enough to be concerned about such associations.
========

How can you say this man doesn't have "core principles to defend?"

Easily. When he received criticism for his association of Rev. Wright and exposing his children to that type of language and thought, our president-elect refused to leave the church. It wasn't until it was in his best political interest to leave that church that he finally got around to it. That's not living by personal principles. It's living by what is in his best political interests. It's not the same thing. He should have immediately resigned membership in the church where Rev. Wright was preaching. We can agree to disagree with that if you'd like, but I stand by that. It's certainly not a minister whom I would want to have influence on my children, that's for certainty. To each his or her own.
==============

Our president elect has dedicated his entire life to helping people. He is a kind, strong, God fearing man who loves America and wants nothing more than to make this country the best it can be.

"Defending a minister who says 'G.D. America' is 'showing love for our country'? We disagree on that. Not much for me to say beyond that.
===================

Our country has health care. I spent a week in the hospital without insurance, so I've been affected by the situation myself, too.

Sure, I believe that all people should receive treatment, but at the same time, I don't appreciate people who attempt to form my words for me.

I just think that there are situations where all people don't deserve the very finest of treatments. I believe that there are some instances where going to a clinic is more warranted.
=======

Talk about a better America. Maybe if we all cared enough to give a little- we would have a change for the better in this country.

Cicely, I assure you that I am probably more generous than most in my income range. I believe in 'choice'. I believe that I should have the right to decide on certain things as to whether I'd like to support them. I do not want my government to make such decisions for me. I do not consider that to be our government's role.

I consider it an outright embarrasment when we have men and women in harm's way and the person who will be SERVING as their leader makes accusations against them that, first of all, are unwarranted....secondly, untrue. That is not a person in whom I would be proud to have as a leader. It's not a personal attack against our president-elect. I believe that there is a long-time congressman from Pennsylvania (I think) who's just as guilty of the same.

Sometimes, I think that our political leaders are under the mistaken notion that we work for them. Under our constitution, it's fairly clear that they report to us.

We have someone who's agenda is to increase governmental spending by a lot of money. That's likely to cause job loss.

So, either he's going to have to increase taxes significantly...or scale back on his promises that helped him get elected.

If that should come to be, then my question would be- how is that a 'change'?

Please remember, though, that I am all for giving him a fair chance. It's up to him to deliver, and I surely hope that he does.

I'm concerned with his past associations and past judgment...actually, recent past. The "Wright" association was only weeks ago.

I'm a peaceful entity. I get a kick out of how I'm sometimes described by those who don't know me.

I admit that when I was a kid, I had a couple squirt guns (not water bazooka guns) and a sling shot that broke the first and only time I used it. I used to throw paper wads at the girls sometimes, if that counts.

I'm just not much into 'big government' or 'government solving all of my problems'. I have some less conservative leanings, too, I assure you.

If Sen. Obama's policies activate our country, great! If they don't, we're in for deep, deep, don't don't.

Wall Street has the same concerns, and the economy's what keeps our country vibrant. We see now what happens when people and corporations lose confidence.

I'm hopeful that we re-gain that confidence pronto.

***Excellent point, core beliefs are great, and committing adultery with a woman that is worth millions while leaving your disabled wife to scrape by, is a “top of the charts” core belief. I believe your accusations to be very brittle at best, and even I, someone with very little political interest, can dig up frivolous accusations, such as the Keating Five Scandal, also “associating” with corrupt individuals. I can only assume your ideal candidate of such “core beliefs” has his own association hazards.

Whom you have voted for was a man who, for more than 20 years, obtained his spiritualism from a man of hate...Worse, you have supported a man and his wife who subjected their two innocent children to that level of hatred. ****Insinuations don’t quite function as well as having factual information. You received your info from “the media”, who is largely controlled by those who supported the McCain campaign. And if you want to talk about morals, just remember that 100% of McCain’s campaign ads were completely negative.

Three words: "God !@#!@$@#%$@# America?" You support that? He was Wright about one thing- The chickens WILL come home to roost if we elect people with that kind of spiritualism and love of our country.

****Obama himself said that he did not condone what the reverend had said. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that the actions or words of others will reflect the leadership capabilities of the president elect in repairing this country.

****Have you opened your eyes to the current trend of parenthood in this country, or within the past decade? I read your post and I see hatred spewing from your words, and the level of hypocrisy seems to be flowing just as freely. You accuse Obama of things that you are currently supporting by writing what you have.

Whom you have supported is a man who wants to "talk" to people who hate our country to the point that they will kill more than 3,000 at any given opportunity- people who do so at the expense of the LIVES people in your chosen industry of profession, and your former occupation. Good luck "negotiating" with that.

****I suppose talking is now the wrong way to be diplomatic in foreign conflicts. I suppose we should go ahead and exterminate all those that may pose a threat to our nations security and while we are at it we can impose democracy on every country that stands in our way. Oh wait we already are. I wipe my brow in relief that your ideals of insult and accusation will not be leading the country.

Whom you have voted for and supported is a man who failed to defend those in the military whom he is about to serve as Commander In Chief. How would you feel if SouthWest's CEO failed to defend you....when you did nothing wrong? How would you feel if your CEO failed to apologize to you after he was wrong?

****Once again, insinuations that are a little out of context. I ask you, when has our dear pres. Bush ever apologized for the ignorant decisions he has made on my behalf, a citizen of this country? And by the way, those ignorant decisions made by our current Pres. were supported 90% of the time by our dear “friend” the Maverick.

The change? Well, let's hope that there is some- positive change.

****He has already made more positive change than many in our history; people are now taking part in the democratic process. And apparently, by your point of view, the majority of the country was fooled into thinking that Obama was a competent civil rights attorney, senator, community organizer and now president elect. Man he is good, isn’t he?

I would say the same about any candidate with these same failures.

****I still don’t see the failures that you think you have so valiantly pointed out.

****You live in a democracy where everyone pays their share, where the wealth has always been “redistributed” and taxes raised. The problem this go around is that the current administration has done a terrible job of it, so now someone has to clean it up.

I agree that adultery is an indication of low character.

At the same time, I think that exposing innocent children to the level of hatred that Rev. Wright is known to have against his country and fellow citizens is even lower. Even if there's disagreement as to whether it's lower, it certainly is judgment totally unbecoming of a person about to serve the nation as its president.

At first, Sen. Obama and his wife refused to resign their membership in that church. Continued membership is silent support. To beat Sen. Clinton, he realized that he and his wife had no choice but to end their relationship with Rev. Wright. Pandering, not wise parenting.

My parents would have pulled out of a church like that on Day 1 if a minister went around preaching like that. So would I. I don't want my kids affected by that type of 'worship'. Imagine if the Republican candidate or current president was a member of that church. There would have been heck to pay. Obama? Scot free. So don't write to me about 'the media'.

As for some of the rest, I don't recall writing anything about "extermination", so I won't comment on it. You would have to pose that question to someone who has.

I would expect there to be questions raised about Obama's associations with men of hate, of parishioners of hate, and of admitted killers, and those who mock the very system that permitted them to perpetrate crimes and remain free. I'm no marketing expert, but my guess is that it would be challenging to run positive ads on those things.

Let's not forget that some of McCain's ads included the positive mention of his credentials; of the McCain Feingold act, of his unselfish act of allowing others to leave a POW camp before him; of having more qualifications than a man who served an impressive 144 days as a senator before announcing his candidacy.

Look, the election's over. The people have spoken, and that's the beauty of a free nation. There's probably little need to debate credentials at this point. It won't change the outcome one bit. I think we can at least agree on that much.

I just wouldn't rate this situation all that "solid" by any means. That was my overall point.

Thus far, Obama's been less than impressive. He's already had to apologize to the widow of one of his predecessors for his rather poor judgment of talking without thinking. That's not much "change". However, disrespecting those who have served before us is "negative change", in my opinion. Imagine if Mrs. Reagan would have said something publicly that insulted Sen. Obama or his wife. Imagine if President Bush would have.

Change? Let's hope there IS change for the better.

I don't wish him failure. I wish him nothing but success.

I'm all for being 'solid'. We're not there yet, in my opinion.

He's not a 'community organizer' anymore. The job he's going to take in a few months is a heckuva lot bigger community.

I hope that he begins with the 'unity' part.

If I'm considered 'crazy' for holding those hopes, then I'm crazy.

Cicely said...

I don't know if you have children or not, but man they are lucky to have a parent who has never associated with someone that would negatively influence them. I'm guessing that you don't allow them to watch television or maybe you just changed the channel during McCain's ads.

I wish we could all be so lucky.

Agree to Disagree.

ps. I think the "extermination" comment was used with a hint of sarcasm.

Anonymous said...

I don't agree that this is an equal and fair comparison- comparing TAKING your children to hear messages of hate on a regular (weekly?) basis, live and in person, with you, the parents, right there 'praying' beside them....to watching television that even kids soon know is not 'real, live'. I wouldn't be surprised if the Obamas put more thought into monitoring their daughters' television viewing than their 'religious' influences.

Let me ask you this- If you have kids, would you take them with you to this type of 'worship'? Would you have no problem if your minister went around 'preaching' like that?

It is because of our country that people have the freedom to go around 'preaching' those messages. In other countries, they'd be jailed for it....and worse.

Our president-elect was a member of that church for 20 YEARS. That's a very significant percentage of his adult life.

We're not talking about the guy's barber. We're talking about his pastor. We're not talking about his television habits; we're talking about his religious and social beliefs.

Whether we like it or not, we're measured, at least in part, by the company we choose to keep. We can choose to ignore that, but it's the truth. If this is the kind of person that our president-elect has chosen to associate with for so many years (not to mention domestic terrorists), then what confidence can we have in his appointments?

Sorry, Cicely, but I have my reservations about this man a leader.

President Bush won election with 50 or 51% of the vote and our country was supposedly 'divided'.

President-elect Obama won election with 52% of the vote and, all of a sudden, we're supposedly 'solid' and 'united'.

I guess it's that 1 out of 100 that made all the difference.

He ran on essentially one message- "I'm not Bush" (Change). First press conference after election, he's asked a simple question about how his policies might affect the nation's economy. He absolutely did not answer the question, for he knew the effect it could have on the investment community.

Failure to directly answer questions....

Doesn't sound to me like there's much 'Change' so far.

I hope for "Improvement"....not just 'change'. 'Change' could be for the worse. I'm hoping for the better.

On that, I hope that all of us will agree.

Let's take another look at this. A guy goes running around saying things like "G.D. America" and things nearly as bad...

Even President Clinton didn't go to those kinds of churches, far as I know.

Here, I am questioning a man of proven hate....and it's "ME" who's supposedly hateful?

I wouldn't want kids taken to a church where they preach and "war ship" stuff like that, and you'd think that I was the guy on TV or something. I'm the exact OPPOSITE of that. I go to church to (get this) pray!

We have a woman who's lived, I don't know- 40 years or more (?) in this country before she's finally proud to be a citizen? But....I'm the guy who's crazy and hateful?

I'm the guy who's grateful for our men and women who serve us in the military...but I'm the guy who's nuts because I haven't falsely accused them of anything.

I don't want the gov't controlling healthcare because I can't remember the last time the gov't did anything like that as well as the private sector. Just look at education as an example- Private schools are generally considered better than public schools. The railroads were a disaster under gov't management. I think that the major problem with healthcare is that it's too expensive. There aren't any 'price lists' so that we can 'shop around' for it like we can for most other things we 'buy'. I would rather give people the money and let them make their own decisions for their care. I'm crazy.

For all this, one calls ME 'crazy'. A couple call ME 'Hateful'....and one thinks I'm a militia or something. One compares MY actions (of anonymity) with the Kay Kay Kay. What's up with THAT?

So, you want me to identify myself after some of you nice people have said some nasty things about me? I WOULD be crazy if I did something dumb like that. If Sen. Obama calls our enemies names like that when he's 'making nice' with them, they'll probably blow us to smithereens!

The only name I've called someone here is Sen. Obama when I referred to him as a "song and dance man"- and only then because he won't answer some direct questions- "No change".

I hope that when our future president gets around to re-distributing things, that he distributes some sanity, too!

All of you people scare ME to death, so why would I be crazy and identify myself?

You can do what you want about our country....but I say-

God BLESS America! God Save Our Nation!

Oh boy...

I told Dan (DD) on the phone that I do think he's crazy, and I do think he's out of control... but I am happy to know he's at least someone we know. (Although, anyone that far right -- or left -- kind of freaks me out.)

Dan - you may tout the private sector as an answer to the gov't , but I totally prefer the cost of a book at the Library to that of Barnes and Noble; not to mention I can wait 2 hours at the doctor's office very often (not to mention the ER if my arms not cut off), and there are plenty (especially in smaller communities who had air service in the late 70s and early 80s) that would say the airline industry did much better under control of the government (and you know I work for SkyWest -- what's this Southwest crap?!?!)

I'm also a fan of roads, highways, trash collection and scenic byways... national parks and public parks and... well the list goes on and on.

I can't believe you got my readers so fired up... and I'm going to figure out how to block annon. comments on my blog from now on because, like I mentioned, Danny and I thought you were this guy from Facebook I had to de-friend because he was publishing racial and bigoted comments... no it just turned out to be DD on a tirade about Rev. Wright. (And the fact you brought Holden into this had my husband wanting to by a plane ticket and take you out-- although, we didn;t know exactly where to find you.)

And regardless of what you believe, this is my blog, and I am it's queen... and in my dynasty, I say that America electing it's first black president is a SOLID (as in "give me nucks, high-five, way to go) for the social significance of this decision. If Alan Keyes would've been elected in 2000 (even though I don't agree with his ideology) I think it would've been an historic decision too...

Again, race had NOTHING to do with why I voted for our president elect... but to deny the significance of how far our country has come, is (in my opinion) to slap America in the face.

I'm not sure how many of the suite-spot readers actually took the time to read all your comments (my attention span usually shuts down by paragraph 3 of anything); but man, I am practically speechless.

I don't think listening to the Rev. ranks anywhere near as offensive as adultery in my book... Just for the record. Again, I am queen of this blog, so disagree with me, but it doesn't matter... I've been posting under my name since day one... so I trump you every time!

It's time for a new entry...

I'm going to work on that... This was way too exhausting for EVERYONE involved. (And Dan, if you scared away my readership, "you got some splaining to do."

Wow. The "Original" has a lot to say.
To disclose, I didn't vote for Obama because I disagree with some of his economic policies. However, to say that he is an unpatriotic, hateful man is irrational. Annonymous, I think you are putting too much weight on the Rev Wright "association". Rev Wright is a complete moron for saying what he has said about America. But just because Wright said stupid things, does that mean that Obama necessarily believes all of them? Do you think that Obama agrees with Wright when Wright says "GD America"? If he did, he probably wouldn't have run for president. You certainly cannot say that Obama is a hateful person because one of his friends has said some stupid, hateful things in the past. Have you ever disagreed with one of you friends or leaders?
